Income from cryptocurrency mining, cryptocurrency trading, tokens and NFTs has entered ANAF’s area of attention. In recent years, Romanian tax inspectors have increasingly reviewed income obtained from digital-asset activities.

According to public information cited at the time, ANAF identified significant undeclared income from Romanian individuals involved in crypto-related activities and issued tax decisions for unpaid obligations.

What taxpayers should retain

  • Income from crypto trading, mining or NFT activity may create tax-reporting obligations in Romania.
  • The obligation to declare does not disappear because the activity takes place on foreign platforms.
  • Individuals should keep transaction history, wallet records, exchange reports and supporting documents.
  • Voluntary compliance is usually safer than waiting for a tax inspection.

Anyone carrying out or planning such activity should review the tax treatment before withdrawing funds, converting assets or submitting the annual Single Declaration.
